The new Muc-Off Stealth Tubeless Tag Holder hides an Apple AirTag in your tubeless valve stem for completely secret bike tracking.

Yeah, it seems like an odd spot, but if there’s one place thieves aren’t going to check, it’s inside your tires. So that’s one of two spots Muc-Off is letting you put the tracker…

Designed specifically for the Apple AirTag, it houses it inside a 3-part protective silicone and rubber tubeless valve mount. It comes with a variety of rubber grommets to fit most any tubeless-ready gravel or mountain bike rim, too.

A “sacrificial stem” underneath the tag compresses and rebounds on impacts to protect the AirTag from getting crushed or damaging the valve and creating a leak. Ports in the support piece allow sealant and air to flow into the tire during setup and inflation.

Retail is $19.99 (£14.99 / €19.99) each (you’ll only need one per bike), or in a kit that includes one black Muc-Off 44mm tubeless valve stem so you can match the exterior look front and rear.

If you just can’t get comfortable with putting it in your tire, they also have a Secure Tag Holder that fits under your bottle cage. It comes with two T25 security bolts and the install tool, and sandwiches the Apple AirTag inside a custom machined alloy clamshell.

They come in 12 anodized colors and retail for $44.99 (£29.99/€39.99). Neither option includes the Apple AirTag, those are sold separately.

Thieves use 10USD frequency sniffer and find the part immediately.

It’s not nonsense. I have prosecuted dozens of citizens that have made both home gadgets made online or bought. This is a simple technique that all law breakers are aware of.

“All” people that steal bikes are aware of this? Unlikely.

You are correct that a simple scanner would detect it. However, its one of the better AirTag ideas. Getting at it would involve slashing the tire or tires and getting tubeless fluid on yourself. It wouldn’t be fun riding the bike away either. Most owners who are willing to pay for this tubeless valve which is one of the most expensive on the market along with the AirTag would likely have carbon wheels. Wouldn’t want to spin that away without damaging the wheel(s).

Seems like it sits really far into the tire and could get smashed.

This doesn’t make sense at all if the thief is an iphone user

In order to impede the use of AirTags to track people (crazed stalkers, etc) if an Air Tag not associated with your Apple ID is following you, you’ll get a message on your iphone saying you’re being tracked by an AirTag that isn’t yours. In other words, if the thieves have an iphone they’ll be quickly notified that there’s an AirTag on the bike.

MAYBE they would be inspired to ditch the bike at that point (one can dream!) but who knows. Under any circumstances, the hidden AirTag will notify the thief the bike is being tracked all on its own.

So putting it inside the tire is just dumb.

It would be better to have a fully visible — but hard to remove — system like the water bottle mount — but even then a thief would just take a grinder to it…

Nice try Muck Off, but it’s a goofy scheme…

If a thief is going to take the bike… THEY are going to take the bike! Having any device visible or even easily accessible with little effort to locate is a failed logic best place and it’s only a deterrent because like I said above if they are going to steal the bike it going to be taken anyway is to pop the device in the frame or even fork. Also, dare I say, let them know the bike has an internal tracking device and place that sticker in a prominent place. Will it stop them taking the bike… if there is another bike close by for sure if not probably not… M2CW
