Someone within Eskom, who knew exactly where the CCTV cameras at the Tutuka Power Station near Standerton were, cut a warming valve cable with a grinder during the past weekend, further adding to the power generating woes of the national power supplier.

Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha, confirmed the incident which happened between Friday and Tuesday. It was only discovered as Unit 5 at the coal-fired Tutuka was in the process of being returned to service and wouldn't start warming up.

When the same unit's systems were tested on Friday, it had no issues. It was when the unit was being prepared on Tuesday to be turned on that it wouldn't warm up. It was only then discovered there was no power supply to the specific valve.
